France : CPI
Released On 7/28/2017 2:45:00 AM For Jul(p), 2017
Month over Month0.0 %-0.3 %
Year over Year0.7 %0.7 %

Consumer prices provisionally fell 0.3 percent on the month in July. The decline left the annual inflation rate unchanged at 0.7 percent. Yearly flash HICP inflation was similarly steady at 0.8 percent.

Within the CPI basket, inflation rates amongst the major components were little different from June. Overall manufacturing posted another minus 0.3 percent annual rate while services edged just a tick firmer to 1.0 percent. Energy was also up 0.1 percentage points at 2.0 percent while food dipped an equivalent amount to 0.7 percent on the back of weakness in fresh produce (0.3 percent after 1.5 percent).

Today's preliminary results suggest a broadly stable underlying inflation picture last month. If sustained, recent signs of a more robust domestic economy should make for some upside potential to prices further out but for now product markets remain tight.

The consumer price index (CPI) is a measure of the average price level of a fixed basket of goods and services purchased by consumers. Monthly and annual changes in the CPI represent the main rates of inflation. The national CPI is released alongside the HICP, Eurostat's harmonized measure of consumer prices. A flash estimate was released for the first time in January 2016 and is now published towards the end of each reference month.  Why Investors Care
